This past Friday I went on a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see different types of art from various time periods. We went on a tour through the museum and the first piece of art worked we looked at was from the Islamic galley and it was called mihrab(prayer niche). the next two artworks was from the Near Eastern Exhibition, they were both lamassus which meant I ancient times they were used to guard the palaces. one of the lamassus was a human-headed winged bull and the other was human-headed winged lion. the next artwork was a rather unique piece called PixCell-Deer#24; it is a real dead deer covered in marble spheres. the fourth artwork on the tour was my personal favorite was Suijingū or Shrine of the Water God. the last two pieces of art were portrayals of the sane person which was John Brown but they were the complete opposite. the first one was named John Brown and portrayed him as an enemy of the country, but the last piece is called The Last Moments of John Brown and showed John Brown as a man of kindness. what I learned from the tour is that artist have various different ways to portray the thing they want whether it be fear, kindness, or their perspective of reality.in ancient times people used animals that symbolize different things or vibrant colors to get a message across. in modern times it is also very symbolic but it has because more difficult to uncover the message of the artwork without the artist giving hints. I feel that this can be very helpful in my Visual Design Class because most of the art I do is more straight forward and doesn't use many symbols. therefore I can use what I learned about using symbols to portray emotion into my art in order to intrigue the viewers. I did enjoy visiting the museum because I got to see artworks that captivated me but also were quintessential to history. I would enjoy going again but not alone with friends because I would feel to lonely exploring by myself.

A little side note about the museum is the printed museum is inferior to the digital version. although they both have the same content, the digital version had much more detail and information. you can see images of each exhibition and a brief explanation which can be very helpful when exploring the museum.
